Musical moments
Joe has been painting for over a decade, often taking musicians or dancers as his inspiration. The work focuses on the moment of creation and the intense human effort behind it. This often means zooming in on hands or faces and their instruments. In the case of the dancers, Joe tries to capture the graft rather than the beauty. Joe’s currently preparing a new exhibition for early in 2015. Watch this space.

“Painted nails”
When Mayfair’s stylish Westbury Hotel commissioned Joe to design and paint a series of menus for their Artisan restaurant, Joe chose to feature paintings of the hands of their chefs holding key ingredients (Joe to Head Chef: “It’s your job to find me chefs with nails.” HC to Joe: “It’s your job to give us nails”).

His portraits of Elgar and Beethoven were commissioned as biographical book covers and the Managing Director of Classic FM commissioned a Mozart portrait from Joe. Most recently, X-factor winner and rising star Alexandra Burke has asked Joe to paint a portrait of her idol, Bob Marley.
